What is text to 911?
Text-to-911 is a service that allows individuals to send a text message to 911 emergency services instead of calling. This service is particularly useful for individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing, or have a speech disability, as well as in situations where making a phone call may put the person in danger or is not possible.
When an individual sends a text message to 911, the message is received by a call center or emergency dispatch center, where a trained operator will respond to the text message and initiate the appropriate emergency response.
